SBY on US-Iran War: All Countries Affected, Economy in Ruins

JAKARTA - Sixth President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has stated that the war between the United States (US) and Iran will also affect many countries. One of the most significant impacts is on the economic sector due to the conflict in the Middle East. “Because if the war continues like this in the Middle East, all countries will be affected, and the economy will be in ruins worldwide,” said SBY while speaking at the Supermentor event held by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), quoted from the FPCI Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast on Wednesday (15/4/2026). “Hopefully, what is currently underway in Islamabad, Pakistan, between the American delegation and the Iranian delegation can produce an agreement, a deal to end the war,” said SBY. If the war between the US and Iran is not stopped soon, he fears a global economic crisis like the one in 2008 could occur. His hope is that the United States and Iran reach an agreement in Islamabad for the return of international stability. “There is no magic recipe for an agreement. There needs to be give and take, compromise, and willingness from each side to take a step back,” said SBY.
