SBY Invites Lemhannas Students to Study Economic History at SBY*ANI Museum and Gallery
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has invited participants of the National Defence Institute (Lemhannas) to visit the SBY*ANI Museum and Gallery to study economic developments that occurred during his presidency.
“Governor, if you have the time and permission, I have a museum in Pacitan, a Presidential Museum. The first of its kind in Asia — please do come and see it,” SBY said whilst delivering a public lecture at the Lemhannas office in Central Jakarta on Monday.
SBY explained that the museum contains extensive valid data from both domestic and international institutions documenting Indonesia’s economic progress from 2004 to 2014.
The sixth President noted that in 2004 Indonesia recorded a per capita income of just 1,200 US dollars. By 2014, this had risen to 3,760 dollars — an increase of 350 per cent.
According to SBY, policy changes must be carefully considered to ensure they are well-targeted in boosting economic growth.
With the right policies, he expressed confidence that Indonesia would escape the middle-income trap.
He also believed that appropriate policies would enable Indonesia to achieve economic growth of 6 to 8 per cent, in line with the targets set by President Prabowo Subianto.
“So if Pak Prabowo can restore the graph, the curve, to something like this, we will escape the middle-income country category — we will break free from the middle-income trap,” SBY said.
