SBY Discusses Strengthening Rupiah and JCI Trend: Hopefully a Good Sign

Indonesia’s 6th President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), has commented on the strengthening of the rupiah and the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) over recent days. SBY hopes this trend could mark a good beginning for Indonesia’s economic conditions.

“Alhamdulillah, there is good news for all of us. Over these two days, 9-10 June 2026, the Rupiah and JCI have strengthened significantly. Congratulations and thank you to the country and the government. Hopefully, this is the beginning and a good sign ~ a good beginning,” SBY wrote on his personal X account, as seen on Wednesday (10/6/2026).

SBY stated that the good news aligns with his prediction in May 2026. SBY believes the administration of President Prabowo Subianto still possesses the political and economic resources to overcome the economic pressures felt by the Indonesian people. “Options and solutions from our monetary and fiscal authorities remain available,” SBY said.

According to SBY, several factors have influenced the strengthening of the rupiah and JCI in recent days. He highlighted the solid synergy between the policies implemented by Bank Indonesia and the government.

SBY hopes this momentum can be maintained by Prabowo’s administration. He is confident the government has prepared steps to maintain national economic stability. “Going forward, in the coming days, we hope the government continues to take economic stabilisation measures. To restore the health of our state budget. To limit and control the amount of government debt. To prevent rises in the prices of goods and services that could hit the people’s livelihoods,” SBY said.

SBY also urged the government to swiftly restore investor confidence and enhance more effective communication with the public. Additionally, SBY hopes for solutions for the fate of people affected by the increase in non-subsidised fuel prices decided by the government.

Furthermore, SBY also invited the public to maintain national stability by supporting the Prabowo administration. He mentioned that support from many parties is needed by the government during difficult situations. “I know, having been seasoned in handling economic pressures like this when I led Indonesia before, all these government efforts naturally require time. Stronger public support is needed. Remember, ‘in crucial things, unity’. ‘In important things, dialogue’ and accommodating a diversity of constructive views. Rational thinking, appropriate policies, and serious real actions become very important,” SBY concluded.
