Saving Fuel, Semarang City Government Implements WFH

Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng will adjust the circular issued by the central government. Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs issued a policy implementing Work From Home (WFH) for Civil Servants (ASN) every Friday from 1 April 2026. Mayor Agustina emphasised that this WFH policy aims to save fuel oil (BBM). “This is actually a way to save on BBM usage. So the outcome when we reduce office activities is a reduction in BBM,” she said on 1 April 2026. Although WFH for ASN will be implemented, her side will soon formulate technical guidelines and implementation instructions, as well as the WFH monitoring system. This WFH policy, she said, will not apply to all ASN. This is because there are several service units that directly interact with the public and must remain fully operational, such as hospital services and licensing. “There are some that indeed cannot do WFH, including hospitals, then licensing services and so on. There must still be some open so that the wheels of government keep turning on Fridays,” she said. When asked about the amount of BBM savings targeted through the WFH implementation, Agustina said that each Regional Work Unit (OPD) will be asked to report the estimated efficiency that can be achieved. Then, the results will be set in the budget amendment process. “Each agency will report the estimated savings up to how much. Then in the budget amendment process, the reduction will be determined,” said the Mayor. Nevertheless, this efficiency must not sacrifice the quality of public services. Her side will seek a formula or work pattern to ensure public services continue to run well. “Services must remain maintained. The public must still be served well, there must be no bottlenecks,” she stated. Regarding the monitoring method, her side said there must be a special system that cannot rely on just one party. “This must have a certain system pattern that we decide quickly. The mayor cannot monitor alone, the inspectorate also cannot monitor alone,” she said.
