Saving Fuel, Mataram Officials Required to Cycle to the Office
The Mataram City Government in West Nusa Tenggara is preparing a new policy that requires structural officials to use bicycles as a mode of transport to the office in order to save fuel for official vehicles.
The City Secretary of Mataram, Lalu Alwan Basri, stated that the policy is a direct instruction from the Mayor of Mataram as a strategic step in addressing the central government’s planned implementation of work from home (WFH).
“If the government implements WFH, we in the Mataram City Government will not follow suit with WFH, but will issue a policy for structural officials starting from echelon II, III, to IV to use bicycles,” he said on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
He explained that the policy is based on two main objectives: fuel budget efficiency and improving the health of civil servants (ASN).
For budget efficiency, the Mataram City Government has implemented a 50% cut in fuel expenditure for the 2026 fiscal year compared to the previous year. Therefore, the use of bicycles is expected to significantly reduce the use of official vehicles.
Additionally, cycling to the office is also considered to have a positive impact on the health of ASN. This activity is expected to increase the fitness of officials in the city government environment.
