The Bangkalan Regency Government (Pemkab) has mandated that civil servants (ASN) travel to work using pedal bicycles or ontel bicycles. The regency states that this is a step towards energy conservation amid the turmoil of the global crisis.

Quoted from detikJatim on Friday (27/3/2026), Deputy Regent of Bangkalan Faudzan Jakfar explained that the conflict impacting restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz has the potential to disrupt global oil supplies. He assessed that this policy must be taken as an anticipatory measure.

“We have adopted this policy as an anticipatory step against the potential rise in world oil prices due to ongoing geopolitical conflicts,” said Faudzan.

ASN Prohibited from Using Motorised Vehicles

As a follow-up, ASN within the Pemkab Bangkalan environment will be prohibited from using motorised vehicles on certain working days. This policy will be reinforced through a Regent’s Circular addressed to all agencies.

“We want to contribute to energy conservation; on the first day of implementation yesterday (Wednesday), we have instructed the ASN to use pedal bicycles (air),” he said.

The policy also aligns with the local government’s efforts to curb fuel oil (BBM) consumption amid global uncertainties.
