The phenomenon of frost or ice has been covering the non-climbing tourist area of Savana Propok in the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) region, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). This phenomenon, which has occurred over the last few days, has become a unique attraction for tourists.

Rosidi Anwar, one of the managers of Savana Propok, stated that this ice phenomenon has been occurring for the past three days, with morning temperatures reaching between 4 and 2 degrees Celsius. “This ice phenomenon has been happening for the last three days; it is 4 to 2 degrees in the morning,” said Rosidi on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

According to Rosidi, this phenomenon makes the scenery in Savana Propok even more exotic. The condition has also led to an increase in the number of tourists arriving to camp. “The number of visitors camping has increased significantly because the scenery is even more beautiful. There is ice in the form of crystals clinging to the grass, and it can also be found on visitors’ tents,” he added.

The Head of the TNGR Administrative Sub-division, Astekita Ardiaristo, explained that the ice phenomenon in Savana Propok is a common occurrence, especially during the current seasonal transition. “This is a phenomenon that commonly occurs in mountainous regions. Moreover, we are entering the dry season, and there is also the influence of the onset of winter in the Australian continent,” Astekita explained.

Savana Propok remains open to tourists despite the cold weather. However, the authorities remind visitors to prepare thoroughly before trekking. “It remains open. However, we remind prospective hikers to prepare themselves, especially for the night and morning periods, by bringing thicker jackets or sleeping bags,” said Astekita.
