Saudia-Garuda Strengthen Network, Target Indonesia-Europe Connectivity

Chief Commercial Officer of Saudia Airlines Arved von zur Muehlen said the signing of the Joint Business Framework Agreement with Garuda Indonesia provides a foundation for integrating the networks and improving flight connectivity of both airlines. Muehlen hopes the cooperation will open broader travel access for Indonesian passengers to various regions of the world and vice versa.

“The agreement is a historic moment for both airlines,” Arved said after the signing of the Joint Business Framework Agreement between Saudia Airlines and Garuda Indonesia at Hotel Raffles, Jakarta, Thursday (27/8/2026).

According to Muehlen, the cooperation marks the beginning of a long process to build deeper collaboration and deliver benefits for customers. Muehlen said Saudia and Garuda can begin aligning their flight schedules and networks once the antitrust immunity process is completed.

Muehlen said Saudia will also expand travel options for Garuda customers to a number of regions. According to Muehlen, the strength of both airlines lies in their complementary networks, which can be developed into greater connectivity.

“We will provide access for the Indonesian public from Garuda to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and of course Saudi Arabia,” he continued.

Muehlen assessed that Indonesia is a highly strategic market for Saudia, partly because it is the country with the world’s largest Muslim population. He said the relationship that has been built over the years through umrah and hajj travel also provides a strong foundation for taking the partnership between the two airlines to the next stage.

Under the cooperation, Muehlen added, both airlines will also discuss more integrated network planning. He said one important aspect is ensuring ease of passenger connections, including through co-locating operations at the same terminal so that passengers do not need to change terminals when making onward journeys.
