Saudi King and Crown Prince MBS Offer Condolences over NTT Earthquake
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has conveyed his condolences and deep sympathy to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, following the earthquake disaster that struck several regions in Indonesia, particularly in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
In an official statement released on the X account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Monday (17/8/2026), King Salman expressed his sincere sorrow to the government and people of Indonesia.
“We extend our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to His Excellency President Prabowo, the families of the deceased victims, and the people of Indonesia,” King Salman stated.
In addition to expressing his grief, King Salman also offered prayers for the recovery of the injured and for the protection of the Indonesian nation. “We beseech Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala to bestow His mercy and forgiveness upon the deceased victims, grant patience and fortitude to the bereaved families, and provide swift healing to the injured,” he said.
A similar message was also conveyed by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Prince MBS sent a direct message to President Prabowo Subianto as a gesture of solidarity over the disaster.
“I have received news of the earthquake that struck several regions in Indonesia and resulted in deaths and injuries. May Allah Ta’ala bestow His mercy upon the deceased victims and grant swift healing to the injured,” Prince MBS said.
The magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook the East Nusa Tenggara region on Saturday (15/8/2026) morning. Based on preliminary data collected, the disaster caused significant impacts in several districts on Flores Island.
The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs reported that the current focus is on registering displaced persons and distributing logistical aid to affected points in the five districts. The international support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia underscores the close relationship between the two countries, particularly in facing natural disaster emergencies.
