Saudi investor to build salt factory

PANGKAL PINANG, Bangka Belitung: A Saudi company will construct a Rp 78 billion (US$12.1 million) salt factory on Bangka island in Bangka Belitung province, Pangkal Pinang mayor said on Monday.

"We have offered the construction of the company to the Dakkar Group in Saudi Arabia. Its representative will survey the site in the near future," Zulkarnain Karim said.

He said the offer was made during a recent business trip he made to Jeddah.

"After a high-tech factory is built, it is expected to produce some 500,000 tons of salt per year to meet domestic demands," he said. -- Antara
