Saudi govt pays to rebuild schools
JAMBI: The Saudi Arabian government has donated Rp 1.4 billion (US$145,000) for the reconstruction of four elementary schools in Muarojambi regency, Jambi, which were damaged by floods early this year.
A Saudi envoy said the money would be used to construct three classrooms in each of the four schools.
"It's our obligation to assist other Muslims in this country," said Ibrahim Sulaiman Al-Naghimsi, the Saudi Embassy's religious attache, while handing over the donation on Wednesday.
Ibrahim hoped the donation would help to improve the regency's education system and strengthen relations between the two countries.
"The construction of the 12 classrooms will be begin shortly," Jambi acting governor Sudarsono said.
The Jambi provincial administration had allocated Rp 345 million to the Muarojambi regency budget to prepare technical plans for construction and provide teaching equipment, Sudarsono said. -- JP
