Saudi Forces Intercept and Destroy Drone Entering Makkah

Riyadh (ANTARA) - The official spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Malki, stated that the air defence forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia successfully intercepted and destroyed a drone attempting to enter the airspace of the city of Makkah.

“On Tuesday evening, 15 September 202<0xA0>6, at 18:50 local time, the Air Defence Forces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed an enemy drone launched by the terrorist Houthi militia, before it entered the restricted airspace of the Holy City of Makkah,” said the spokesperson.

The unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted in the southern part of Makkah. This hostile and terrorist act represents the second attempt to target Makkah, following a previous attempt using a ballistic missile on 27 July 2017.

“This action can only be described as a despicable act and an attempt to target the place of revelation, the land where the message was delivered, and the destination that serves as the spiritual anchor for millions of Muslims from around the world,” he said.

He added that the hostile attempt would remain a shameful stain on the record of violations committed by the extremist and terrorist Houthi militia, as it was a deliberate act intended to provoke the feelings of millions of Muslims.

“The security of the Two Holy Mosques and Umrah pilgrims is non-negotiable. The Command of the Coalition Joint Forces will not hesitate to take all necessary and preventative measures against the terrorist Houthi militia and their hostile and terrorist actions,” the spokesperson concluded.
