The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jakarta has conveyed its sorrow and deepest condolences to the victims affected by the earthquake on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

“The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jakarta expresses its sorrow and deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as to the families of the victims affected by the earthquake that struck Flores Island,” according to a statement from the Embassy via a post on X, Saturday (15/8).

The Embassy expressed hope that the injured victims would recover soon, and that the deceased would receive the mercy of Allah SWT.

The Embassy also prayed to Allah SWT to protect all Indonesian people from all harm.

“May Allah SWT always bestow safety and security upon Indonesia and its people,” the Saudi Embassy added.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 shook East Nusa Tenggara on Saturday morning.

Based on a preliminary report received by the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, the earthquake affected several areas, particularly the regencies of Nagekeo, Sikka, Manggarai, West Manggarai, and Ende.

Around 2,000 people were reported affected, while the number of displaced persons is still being recorded.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) released preliminary data as of Saturday at 6.48 p.m. Western Indonesia Time showing that the total number of fatalities from the earthquake had reached 47 people.
