Saudi Crown Prince Condemns Iranian Attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) has condemned Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, specifically supporting the measures taken by Bahrain to defend its territorial security. This was conveyed by MBS during a telephone conversation with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain on Thursday, according as reported by Al Arabiya.
During the call, MBS reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s “full support and solidarity” with Bahrain and endorsed any steps taken to defend its security and stability, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously issued a condemnation on Wednesday, warning that the attacks undermine efforts to restore stability in the Middle East.
“Saudi Arabia strongly condemns Iran’s brutal aggression and the blatant violation of the sovereignty of Bahrain and Kuwait,” the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated. The Ministry added that the Kingdom firmly rejects attacks that jeopardise the sovereignty of brotherly Gulf nations and weaken international efforts to restore security and stability in the region.
The Saudi condemnation follows an announcement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that its forces had launched missile and drone attacks against the United States’ Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, a US Air Force base in Kuwait, and other US military assets in the Persian Gulf region. According to the IRGC, these strikes were retaliation for US attacks on Iranian tankers in the Gulf of Oman and US strikes on communication towers on Qeshm Island, southern Iran. However, the IRGC denied responsibility for missile strikes at Kuwait International Airport in Kuwait City, instead attributing the incident to US Patriot interceptor missiles.
