Saudi Arabia Welcomes US-Iran Ceasefire, Pushes for Middle East Peace
The Saudi Arabian government has voiced its support for the ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran. Riyadh also hopes that this step will mark the beginning of a comprehensive halt to conflicts in the Middle East region.
Through an official statement on Wednesday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry conveyed its appreciation for this development. This support is seen as a positive signal for regional stability, which has long been overshadowed by geopolitical tensions.
“The Foreign Ministry welcomes the statements by United States President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif regarding the achievement of the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran,” read the Saudi Foreign Ministry statement, as quoted by Sputnik.
On the other hand, a report from the Anadolu News Agency revealed that Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also confirmed the existence of this agreement. He stated that the United States and Iran, along with their allies, have agreed to cease direct conflicts in various regions, including Lebanon.
“With full humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire wherever, including in Lebanon and other regions, effective immediately,” Sharif said via the social media platform X on Wednesday (8/4).
Sharif’s statement came shortly after US President Donald Trump expressed his willingness to temporarily halt attacks and bombings against Iran for a two-week period.
Furthermore, Sharif invited representatives from both countries to continue peaceful dialogue. The meeting is planned to be held in Islamabad on Friday to discuss the final resolution of ongoing disputes.
This diplomatic initiative is expected to pave the way for a permanent agreement and create long-term stability in the Middle East region.
