Saudi Arabia seeks stronger science and technology cooperation with China

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha on Sunday praised China’s scientific and technological progress and expressed pride in the Saudi Arabia-China partnership.

He also conveyed his readiness to expand cooperation with Chinese technology companies.

Alswaha made the remarks while responding to questions from Xinhua at a government press conference in Riyadh ahead of the LEAP 2026 Technology Conference, which opened on Monday.

Recalling his visit to China last month, Alswaha praised China’s scientific and technological capabilities, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, mathematics, and physics.

He noted that China places great emphasis on basic science and has many mathematicians and physicists, which contributes to its global competitiveness in science and technology.

Alswaha said China’s technological developments often receive extensive coverage from global media, describing it as a reflection of a great wave of knowledge and technological advancement.

Alswaha said Saudi Arabia has learned much from China, values its partnership with the country, and hopes to continue collaborating with Chinese technology companies.

The LEAP Technology Conference is an annual global technology event held in the Saudi capital Riyadh, first held in 2022.

LEAP 2026, the fifth edition of the conference, will run from 31 August to 3 September under the theme “Into New Worlds”, with participation from a number of Chinese companies.
