Saudi Arabia Reported to Request Two-Week Ceasefire

Saudi Arabia has requested Oman to approach Ansar Allah (Houthi) to propose a two-week ceasefire.

According to a senior source speaking to Al Mayadeen on Thursday (17/09/2026), both parties would engage in talks concerning the resolution of humanitarian issues in Yemen during the ceasefire period. The source revealed that Riyadh indicated an agreement to address the humanitarian situation in Yemen would be announced during the proposed ceasefire period.

This development occurs amidst a renewed escalation of military activity in Yemen, where Yemeni Armed Forces continue to face Saudi-backed forces across several provincial regions.

Saudi Arabia turns to Oman

The Head of the Al Mayadeen Bureau in Yemen, Abdullah al-Farah, assessed that Saudi Arabia’s move demonstrates Riyadh’s decision to pursue a path of mediation. This step is being taken after Riyadh failed to build an alliance capable of pressuring Sanaa.

Saudi-backed forces have recently increased field mobilisation in several areas. This mobilisation was met by the Yemeni Armed Forces, which launched preemptive strikes against their positions and movements. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia continues to strike several provinces in Yemen through airstrikes, which have subsequently been met with retaliatory attacks by Yemeni forces.
