Saudi Arabia issues emergency warning over potential danger

Istanbul (ANTARA) - Saudi Arabia issued an emergency warning on Tuesday regarding a “potential danger” in Jeddah, Mecca and Taif, located in the country’s western region, urging residents to seek shelter and follow official safety instructions.

The warning was delivered through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, according to the Saudi Civil Defence.

The authorities did not specify the type of potential danger involved.

Residents were asked to remain calm and immediately proceed to the nearest safe location, particularly inside buildings or interior rooms away from windows, and to stay in a safe place until the danger had passed.

The Civil Defence also urged the public to stay away from open areas, windows, balconies and rooftops. Meanwhile, those outdoors were asked to enter the nearest building or take shelter behind sturdy barriers.

Drivers receiving the warning were asked to pull over at locations away from bridges and tall buildings. The public was also told to avoid crowds and dangerous areas and to follow instructions through official channels.

The warning was issued amid escalating clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group in Yemen.

The group has carried out a series of missile and drone attacks on Saudi cities and infrastructure in recent days. Saudi forces have responded by launching strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen.
