More than 70 Umrah travel agency entities, representing more than three million pilgrims worldwide, took part in a tour of Makkah. The aim was to expand the historical and cultural experience within international Umrah packages.

On Tuesday (25/8/2026), the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, in cooperation with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, organised the familiarisation tour.

The tour was designed to help Umrah companies, overseas agents, and travel operators develop more diverse programmes by combining Umrah worship with curated visits to various historical and cultural sites in Makkah.

The programme included visits to four destinations and four optional experiences, allowing participants to see first-hand the content, services, and activities that could be incorporated into their itineraries.

The tour also introduced participants to a number of sites and landmarks in Makkah, including the ‘Discover Makkah’ platform and its role in supporting destination planning.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), organisers said the tour was designed to demonstrate various ways of enhancing the pilgrim experience by expanding the range of activities beyond the core religious rites.

The goal is to help companies develop programmes that combine Umrah with historical and cultural exploration, with options tailored to different interests, according to the report.

The tour also facilitated direct interaction between participating companies, destination managers, and tourism experience providers, allowing them to explore cooperation opportunities.

Officials said such coordination could support the creation of more competitive products while improving marketing in international markets.

As an initial result, several companies began discussions to develop new products and packages related to the Umrah experience.

As part of the follow-up, participating companies were connected with Saudi tour guides proficient in various languages, thereby expanding options for visitors from diverse markets and cultural backgrounds.

Organisers said this effort also strengthens the role of national talent in introducing the history, culture, and various sites of Makkah.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen integration with the Umrah, travel, and tourism sectors, and to build a network of partners capable of developing and marketing products and experiences related to Makkah.

It aims to diversify options for Umrah pilgrims and strengthen Makkah’s presence as a destination in programmes offered by international companies.
