Saudi Arabia and US Sign Nuclear Energy Cooperation Agreement
Riyadh (ANTARA) - Saudi Arabia and the United States have signed an agreement on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, according to the Saudi Ministry of Energy on Thursday.
The agreement builds upon the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries and follows up on the announcement made during the visit of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud to the United States in November last year regarding the conclusion of bilateral negotiations on nuclear energy cooperation for peaceful purposes, the ministry said in a press release.
The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to facilitate the exchange of expertise, knowledge and technology in accordance with the highest international standards for nuclear safety, nuclear security and non-proliferation, the ministry stated.
The agreement supports efforts to diversify energy sources, develop advanced technologies, and expand cooperation and investment opportunities that serve the mutual interests of both countries, the ministry added.
