Saudi Arabia and Morocco Strengthen Defence Cooperation
Saudi Arabian Defence Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman, held telephone talks on Monday (28/09/2026) with the Moroccan Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defence Administration, Abdellatif Loudyi.
During the conversation, the two ministers discussed methods to strengthen Saudi-Moroccan defence cooperation to meet the aspirations of the leaders of both nations. They also reviewed joint efforts to support security and stability in the region amidst current developments, as reported by the Saudi Gazette on Tuesday (29/09/2026).
As previously reported by the Saudi Gazette, King Mohammed VI of Morocco conveyed a strong message of solidarity towards Saudi Arabia, stating that any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco. He further condemned the repeated attacks by Houthi groups against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and attempts to target Makkah.
In two messages addressed to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman, and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, the King of Morocco reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support for the security, sovereignty, and stability of Saudi Arabia.
King Mohammed VI condemned attacks targeting civilian and economic facilities, vital infrastructure, cities, and populated areas throughout Saudi Arabia, stating that attempts to target Makkah and Madinah further strengthen Morocco’s condemnation.
“In these critical times facing your nation, historical responsibility, religious values, and strategic considerations demand that we all unite in defending rights, sovereignty, security, and the holy sites of Islam,” he stated.
The King noted that such attacks are not only aggressive acts against Saudi Arabia, its people, and pilgrims, but also wound the feelings of more than 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide.
He condemned these “criminal acts” and called for accountability from the Houthi group and the parties he believes have supported, funded, and armed them.
King Mohammed VI emphasised that the security and stability of Saudi Arabia and other member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are inseparable from the security of Morocco itself.
“Every attack against Saudi Arabia is an attack against Morocco,” he said, adding that standing with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations is a form of defending shared strategic interests.
The Moroccan King reaffirmed his country’s ongoing support for Saudi Arabia in facing threats from armed groups and regional powers that support them. He warned that such actions threaten broader regional security and vital shipping lanes crucial to the global economy and international navigation. He also stated that these continuous attacks constitute a violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, specifically referencing UN Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015) and Resolution 2722 (2024).
King Mohammed VI stated that attacks on civilian areas, economic facilities, and holy sites violate international humanitarian law as well as international conventions and norms, while calling for accountability.
