Satpol PP Uncovers Non-Compliant Quarrying Activities in Karangasem
The Karangasem Regency Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), alongside several relevant agencies, conducted monitoring of ‘Galian C’ (quarrying) activities in Selat District, Karangasem, on Tuesday (1/9/2026). This monitoring was carried out following a directive from the Bali Provincial Satpol PP.
During inspections at several locations, officers discovered several discrepancies between the data provided in the provincial government’s letter and the actual conditions on the ground. One major issue pertains to the specific locations of the excavations.
While the official letter identified the excavation points as being at Location A, officers found that the actual mining activities were taking as occurring at different coordinates.
Officers also discovered a quarrying site located approximately 2,600 metres from a temple, which falls below the minimum required distance of 3,500 metres from sacred sites. Additionally, further discrepancies between administrative data and field conditions were identified.
“We are not conducting a sudden raid, but rather monitoring in accordance with the letter issued by the province,” said the Head of Law Enforcement and Legislation of Karangasem Regency Satpol PP, I Nengah Sudana Wiriawan, on Tuesday (1/9/2026).
According to Sudana, the monitoring was intended to reconcile the data listed in the official correspondence with the facts found on-site. Based on data from the Bali Provincial Satpol PP, there are 37 quarrying points in the Karangasem Regency area reported to be operating without permits.
“Today, we conducted monitoring at three locations in Selat District based on the letter we received; we have previously conducted similar monitoring in Bebandem District,” Sudana added.
Based on the field findings, the agency acknowledged several violations, such as incorrect excavation coordinates. Consequently, the Satpol PP will summon the business owners to provide clarification.
“The results of the clarification and the field findings will be reported to the Bali Provincial Satpol PP for further follow-up,” said Sudana.
