Satpol PP Steps Up Monitoring of Business Premises in the Thousand Islands
Jakarta — The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) intensifies supervision of places of business during the holy month of Ramadan, targeting restaurants and grocery shops in two districts of the Thousand Islands Regency.
“This move is an effort to maintain public order while ensuring business actors comply with applicable regulations,” said Atok Bahroni Hidayat, Head of Satpol PP Kepulauan Seribu, in Jakarta, on Wednesday.
The supervision is conducted in a coordinated manner with 150 joint personnel consisting of Satpol PP at the district and kelurahan level, elements of the TNI/Polri, LMK, and the community.
He said the collaboration is expected to create a safe and conducive situation during Ramadan.
He said the supervision focuses on regulating restaurant operating hours during Ramadan. Under the rule, restaurant operators are allowed to open their businesses with curtains closed until 5:00 PM WIB, while sahur meal service is allowed from 2:00 AM WIB.
‘So far, field monitoring results show no violations,’ Bahroni said.
The authorities are also supervising grocery shops selling daily necessities. Inspections are carried out to ensure there are no expired products or circulation of alcoholic beverages.
He said each kelurahan conducts checks on five to eight shops to ensure all comply with the rules that have been socialised.
He said the sale of alcohol or expired products is nil. All business operators comply with the rules in Government Regulation No. 8 of 2007 on Public Order.
‘The approach taken is not only about enforcement but also prioritises education so that business operators understand the importance of complying with Ramadan regulations,’ Bahroni said.
Meanwhile, Muslim, the Lurah (village head) of Pulau Untung Jawa, said this supervision is a manifestation of the commitment of village authorities to maintain public order.
‘Praise be to God, the consciousness of the people has improved during this holy month. They are compliant and there are no violations. In other words, residents are helping to create a harmonious atmosphere,’ he said.
