The West Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has dismantled 20 illegal buildings on Jalan Inspeksi Cengkareng, West Jakarta. The joint operation involved the military and police. According to a statement on the Satpol PP West Jakarta Instagram account, the enforcement and demolition of the 20 illegal structures took place on Thursday, 23 July. During the process, officers were seen removing items such as tables and wood from the buildings, and some residents staged a protest, leading to a commotion. “We have issued SP1 and SP2. We are now carrying out the enforcement. We ask all residents to support this activity. We, the authorities, are here to help the community,” an officer stated. The operation on Jalan Inspeksi Cengkareng saw tensions flare between officers and some residents. However, through a humanist approach, open dialogue, and persuasive communication, the situation was brought under control. The residents eventually understood the purpose of the enforcement and offered their support to create a more orderly, safe, and comfortable environment. The enforcement was carried out to restore the function of public space according to its designation. “This enforcement is not merely about demolishing buildings, but also an effort to restore the function of public space according to its designation, and to realise better urban planning for all citizens,” the officer concluded.
