The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) from North Kuta Sub-District apprehended dozens of transvestites who frequently loiter in the Canggu coastal area, Badung Regency, Bali. This enforcement was carried out following reports from the community and restaurant parties regarding their actions deemed to disturb tourist comfort.

“We received reports to the Sub-Section for Order and Tranquility. This morning around 3:30 a.m., we disciplined them,” said the Head of the Satpol PP Badung Team for North Kuta, Putu Agustina.

These transvestites often operated in the early hours by intercepting foreign tourists who had just left night entertainment venues. Their actions even went viral on social media due to sparking brawls and fights with visitors in front of a cafe.

“In the sense of disturbing foreigners, intercepting them like that, even some went viral leading to fights. We use public order as the basis for action, especially since none of them carried an ID card,” said Putu.

Officers secured 12 transvestites in an operation that took place on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong. They initially hid from the pursuing officers. Fortunately, local residents and restaurant employees helped point out their hiding locations.

“There were 12 people disciplined; they usually wait for the beach clubs to close between 4 and 5 a.m. to find clients. Locals pointed them out from the front of Old Man’s towards the south,” she explained.

All the transvestites caught were immediately escorted to the Social Services Office (Dinsos) of Badung Regency for data collection and further handling. Although cooperative during capture at the site, some reportedly protested and resisted upon arrival at the office.

According to Agus, they are suspected to originate from areas outside Bali. Therefore, Badung Dinsos will also coordinate with Bali Dinsos for their return to their home regions.

“We immediately took them to Dinsos, but there they resisted, demanding what their fault was and the evidence. One of them was indeed the provocateur, even though they actually don’t know each other,” added Putu.

Satpol PP emphasised that they will continue to optimise monitoring and routinely conduct sudden inspections in vulnerable spots such as Umalas and Kayu Aya. This step is taken to strengthen the enforcement of public order regulations in the Badung tourism area.
