Satpol PP Demolishes 25 Illegal Structures in Depok, 10 Suspected 'Lap Coffee' Venues

The Depok Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has demolished 25 illegal buildings in Tapos, Depok, West Java. Of the 25 structures, ten are suspected of serving as ‘kopi pangku’ venues.

The demolition of the semi-permanent buildings took place this afternoon at the Cimanggis Toll Exit in Tapos. The operation was carried out jointly with the Depok Metropolitan Police, Kodim 05/08, the Depok District Attorney’s Office, the Depok Transportation Agency, and officials from Tapos Sub-district.

“Yes, today’s operation was carried out in accordance with standard procedures. There were roughly 25 illegal buildings, all of which violated pavements and drainage channels. Thank God, everything proceeded in a conducive manner,” said Raden Agus Mohammad, Head of Public Order and Community Protection at Depok Satpol PP, to journalists on Thursday (23/7/2026).

Agus said that ten of the illegal buildings were suspected of being ‘kopi pangku’ locations, referring to coffee stalls where patrons are offered the service of sitting on the waitresses’ laps. Kopi pangku typically operates at night with dim lighting and loud music, and is often suspected of being a venue for covert prostitution.

“There are roughly ten locations that have been flagged, suspected of being the places you asked about. These ten are indeed the spots where lorries pull over to rest along Jalan Raya Boulevard Emerald,” he said.

Agus explained that the semi-permanent buildings at the ‘kopi pangku’ locations had been subject to enforcement action since 2024. This latest operation targeted structures built on state land as well as on drainage channels.

“We carried out enforcement back in 2024, but not on this scale. Now we are taking action not only against illegal buildings, but also against structures violating drainage channels and state land, drainage systems, and pavements. This collaboration will make things more comfortable for pedestrians,” he said.

Agus assured that his office would conduct routine patrols following the demolition. This is intended to prevent the illegal buildings from being rebuilt by offenders.

“We will carry out post-enforcement operations, God willing, in the coming weeks or next week. We will conduct regular patrols, mobilising the Satpol PP’s BKO teams stationed in Tapos and Cimanggis Sub-districts,” he added.
