Satpol PP and Satlinmas Urged to Strengthen Community Protection Roles
The involvement of figures and political elites will strengthen the legitimacy of government policy.
The 2026 anniversary of the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) and Satuan Perlindungan Masyarakat (Satlinmas) provides a moment to reaffirm the strategic role of Trantibumlinmas, or public order, safety, and community protection, as the foundation of sustainable national development.
This year’s anniversary carries the theme ‘Trantibumlinmas Tangguh untuk Pembangunan Berkelanjutan’ which reflects the government’s commitment to social stability, local legal certainty, and a sense of security for the people.
Public order and safety are seen not merely as administrative functions but essential prerequisites for fostering an investment climate, economic growth, and sustainable welfare.
Satpol PP and Satlinmas play vital roles in upholding regional regulations, maintaining public order, and providing protection to communities in various situations. In addition, the two institutions are involved in safeguarding social and religious activities and handling emergency conditions in the region.
In disaster management, Satlinmas forms part of a community-based protection system that operates from mitigation, preparedness, emergency response, to post-disaster recovery. A fast, humane, and well-coordinated approach with a range of stakeholders is considered essential to ensure community safety while maintaining social stability amid crises.
Head of the Regional Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Aceh Safrizal ZA said the role of Satpol PP and Satlinmas is strongly felt by the people, especially in handling flash flood disasters in several areas. According to Safrizal, Satpol PP personnel together with Satlinmas also reach isolated areas to assist in distributing aid to affected communities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
“The role of Satpol PP, assisted by Satlinmas, is deeply felt by the people, particularly in the disasters of flash floods that occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Tirelessly, Satpol PP reaches isolated areas to help distribute aid. This is a real contribution; essentially, do not distance yourselves from the people,” Safrizal said.
Commemoration of the anniversary of Satpol PP and Satlinmas also serves as a reflection on various challenges in maintaining social stability amid development dynamics, urbanisation, climate change, and increasing disaster risk. Therefore, strengthening coordination between the central and regional governments, synergy with the TNI-Polri, and active public participation are seen as key to realising an adaptive and responsive Trantibumlinmas system.
Through this momentum, Satpol PP and Satlinmas are expected to become more professional, modern, and with integrity in carrying out their duties as the frontline enforcers of local regulations, while also being an essential component of Indonesia’s disaster management system. (E-3)
