SATP records five alumni continuing studies abroad in two years

The Taruna Papua Boarding School (SATP), owned by the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK), which manages the partnership funds of PT Freeport Indonesia, has recorded five alumni successfully continuing their education abroad in the past two years. Head of SATP Sonianto Kuddi in Timika, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province, said on Saturday that two SATP alumni continued their education abroad in 2025, while three others will pursue studies in the United States in July 2026. “So two graduates from 2025 continued their education abroad. Then there are three this year who can pursue education abroad, to America,” he said. He explained that this success is one indicator that the educational and development process implemented by SATP is beginning to yield tangible results for its students. He explained that SATP currently only provides education up to the junior secondary level. After graduating, students continue their education to the senior secondary level while strengthening the academic and English language skills built during their time at SATP. “The children from here are already good at English, and when it is further enhanced at senior secondary school, they will become even better,” he said. According to him, the success of alumni in gaining admission to overseas education is a source of pride for the educators and caregivers at SATP who accompany students daily, including in boarding life. “When there are achievements like this, whether academic, especially in sports, and graduates going abroad, it is a source of pride for us that our work is not in vain,” said Sonianto Kuddi. He explained that the development approach at SATP requires the involvement of educators and caregivers for nearly the entire time because students’ lives take place not only in the classroom but also in the boarding environment. The various programmes designed for students require effort, time, and direct mentoring so that students not only possess academic ability but are also ready to face a broader educational environment. “So our children truly absorb whatever we teach them, so that they are ready wherever they are placed,” he said. The success of the alumni, he said, also serves as feedback for SATP to continue improving its educational and development approach so that more graduates are able to compete at both national and international levels. “So it becomes feedback for us to work even harder,” he said.
