Singapore, (ANTARA/PRNewswire) - SATO, a global provider of auto-identification and data capture solutions, is helping to strengthen the security and efficiency of blood supply management in Singapore through the implementation of a Next-Generation Blood Supply Management System (NBSM) based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The system has been adopted by the Blood Services Group under the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), as well as blood bank laboratories in various public and private hospitals across Singapore. With the system, hospitals can order blood online and track each blood component automatically, allowing HSA to monitor the availability of the national blood supply more effectively.

This strategic initiative by HSA’s Blood Services Group responds to the evolving needs of healthcare services whilst maintaining patient safety and service quality to the highest standards. Through the RFID-based NBSM, HSA has set several key objectives, including:

  • Improving productivity across the entire blood supply chain, from HSA to hospitals.

  • Providing greater clarity on national blood inventory levels so that management can be carried out effectively, both under normal conditions and during emergencies.

  • Enhancing blood and patient safety through better tracking and quarantine processes for blood components.

  • Streamlining HSA workflows whilst making it easier for hospitals to order blood components, thereby improving overall operational efficiency.

HSA appointed CADI Scientific to undertake the NBSM project through an open tender process. In this project, SATO serves as the technology partner, providing RFID labels and PJM RFID readers. SATO’s RFID technology offers fast and accurate capabilities, including tracking liquids such as blood products. The technology forms one of the core foundations of the NBSM system developed by CADI.

SATO, HSA, and CADI have combined their respective expertise in RFID technology, software, and blood supply management to drive important advances in a safer and more secure national blood supply chain in Singapore.

Drawing on its experience in the healthcare and blood services sector, SATO continues to contribute to the development of blood supply chains in various countries. These efforts are supported by precision label printing technology, automated label issuance and application, and PJM RFID tracking technology that meets the international ISO 18000-3 Mode 2 standard.
