Satgas PRR: Lubuk Sidup Bridge Restores Economic Lifeline of Aceh Tamiang
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) following the Sumatra disaster has completed the construction of the Lubuk Sidup Suspension Bridge, which connects Bandar Pusaka Sub-district with Sekerak Sub-district in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh.
This temporary infrastructure has revived the economic lifeline and mobility of Aceh Tamiang residents, which had previously been disrupted by a hydrometeorological disaster that struck northern Sumatra at the end of November 2025.
According to a statement from Satgas PRR on Monday, the bridge is traversed by hundreds of residents’ vehicles daily. Workers use it to reach their workplaces, while students rely on it as the main access route to school.
The presence of the suspension bridge not only facilitates mobility but also supports the continuity of economic, educational, and social activities for communities in the two connected sub-districts.
Hendra, a resident of Lubuk Sidup Village in Sekerak Sub-district, said the emergency bridge has helped daily life for the community. He noted that the reopened access allows residents to carry out activities more smoothly.
“We are very helped by the existence of this bridge,” said Hendra when met on Wednesday (29/4).
As is known, residents previously relied on a concrete bridge as the main access between sub-districts. However, that bridge was destroyed after being hit by flooding at the end of November 2025, temporarily hindering local mobility.
In response to the situation, Satgas PRR quickly built an emergency bridge as a temporary solution. This step is considered appropriate because it restored inter-regional connectivity in a relatively short time, preventing prolonged isolation for the community.
For this effort, residents have appreciated Satgas PRR for promptly providing reconnection access.
“We are very grateful to the government,” said Hendra.
Although the current suspension bridge has provided significant benefits, the community still hopes for the construction of a permanent bridge at the site. They desire stronger and more comfortable infrastructure to better support long-term mobility.
Previously, Satgas PRR Chairman for the Sumatra Post-Disaster Muhammad Tito Karnavian assured that infrastructure recovery in affected areas would continue, progressing from mere functional operations to permanent infrastructure supporting community activities.
“The work (repairing infrastructure) continues. I truly appreciate the efforts of TNI/Polri who do not stop, then BNPB all moving, and Minister of Public Works (Dody Hanggodo) is also extraordinary,” said Tito in a press conference after the Coordinating Team Meeting of Satgas PRR at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Human Development and Culture Complex, Jakarta, on Monday (6/4).
