Latest satellite imagery has revealed damage to a United States (US) air base in Kuwait following an Iranian airstrike on Wednesday (3/6) local time. The satellite images contradict Washington’s claims that all missiles and drones from Tehran were successfully intercepted.

Recent satellite imagery released by Soar Atlas, as reported by Middle East Eye on Friday (5/6/2026), shows the condition of the Ali Al Salem Air Base used by US forces in Kuwait, with one of the shelters appearing destroyed. US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, had previously insisted that all Iranian missiles and drones targeting the air base had been ‘defeated’.

Soar Atlas noted that the area surrounding the air base ‘appears scorched, with several impact craters from the attack visible nearby’. CENTCOM, in its statement, said that Iran fired ‘a number of ballistic missiles towards neighbouring countries in the region’. However, according to CENTCOM’s claims, ‘all failed to hit their intended targets’.

CENTCOM added that two missiles fired towards Kuwait ‘failed to reach their targets or were destroyed in the air’, while three missiles launched towards Bahrain were ‘immediately intercepted’ by air defence systems. Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the barrage of Iranian missiles also hit an international airport and diplomatic missions within its territory. Local authorities reported that at least one person, identified as an Indian national, was killed and 60 others were injured as a result of the attack.

Video footage from Kuwait International Airport showed extensive damage, with fires breaking out in Terminal One, followed by a roof collapse and thick plumes of smoke rising into the sky. Following the series of attacks in its territory, the spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Saud al-Otayan, condemned what he described as ‘Iranian criminal aggression’.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran admitted its forces launched missile and drone attacks against the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, the US Air Force base in Kuwait, and other American military assets in the Persian Gulf region. According to the IRGC, the attack was retaliation for US attacks on an Iranian tanker in the Gulf of Oman and US attacks on a communications tower on Qeshm Island, southern Iran.

However, in its statement, the IRGC denied responsibility for the missile attack on Kuwait International Airport in Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait, blaming the incident on US Patriot interceptor missiles. This claim was immediately refuted by CENTCOM. The US maintained that the claim was incorrect and accused Iran of attacking the airport in a ‘deliberate, planned, and unjustifiable attack’.
