Sate bulayak, with a savoury and spicy flavour, has become one of the buka puasa menus for Muslims living on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). “The savoury sauce blends with chopped bird’s-eye chillies that are hot, making sate bulayak suitable for breaking fast,” said Rahman, one of the buyers interviewed at the Sate Bulayak Narmada culinary centre in Narmada District, West Lombok, NTB, on Tuesday (3 March 2026). Rahman, who came with his wife and child, had driven more than a dozen kilometres from Mataram City to Narmada Sub-District just to break fast with the legendary dish. He said he often eats sate bulayak on Jalan Udayana, Mataram City, and this was his first time sampling the authentic sate bulayak in the region where the dish originated.

Sate bulayak is a local specialty from Narmada Sub-District, Lombok Barat Regency. Now, the dish has spread to various places across Lombok Island, especially at tourist attractions and public gathering spots. “We came here for the first time because we were attracted by the bustle of the Sate Bulayak Narmada culinary centre,” Rahman added.
