Police arrested a satay stall employee surnamed SH who is suspected of stealing a colleague’s motorcycle in the Karet Semanggi area of Setiabudi, South Jakarta (Jaksel). The suspect allegedly stole the motorcycle to buy drugs.

“We checked the CCTV footage at the scene. It turned out the perpetrator was an employee at the same establishment, so we immediately went to his residence to apprehend him,” said Setiabudi Metropolitan Police Chief AKBP Riyanto to reporters, as reported by Antara on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

Riyanto stated the suspect was apprehended within 24 hours of the victim reporting the incident to police. The theft occurred on Friday, 22 May, around 6:00 AM WIB at the parking area of Maranggi Satay Stall on Jalan Guru Mughni No. 7, Karet Semanggi, Setiabudi.

The victim had parked a Honda Beat motorcycle with licence plate B 5537 SDB with the handle locked. However, when he tried to use it again, the vehicle was no longer at the parking spot.

Based on the investigation and CCTV footage, police identified SH as an employee at the eatery for approximately one year. According to Riyanto, the suspect confessed to stealing due to financial difficulties and debts.

However, based on witness statements, police also received information that the proceeds from selling the stolen motorcycle were allegedly used to buy drugs.

“He admitted it was for daily needs due to financial problems and debts, but several witness statements indicate it was also used to purchase drugs,” he said.

The suspect used a T-shaped key to take the victim’s vehicle. He later lent the motorcycle to someone surnamed R. The vehicle is still being searched for by the Setiabudi Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

Police are still investigating witness statements regarding the alleged use of the proceeds from the crime to buy drugs.

Meanwhile, SH has been named a suspect and is undergoing further legal proceedings.

“The motorcycle is still being sought, and investigations are ongoing,” said Riyanto.
