Sarolangun Police Reforest Former Illegal Gold Mine with 'Trees of Life' for Bhayangkara Day
To mark the 80th Bhayangkara Day on 1 July 2026, the Sarolangun Resort Police, under the Jambi Regional Police, have carried out a significant environmental initiative in Sarolangun Regency, Jambi Province. Led directly by Sarolangun Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Wendi Oktariansyah, the activity involved planting and distributing horticultural and shade tree seedlings to communities around a former illegal gold mining (PETI) area in Limun District. In collaboration with the Sarolangun Housing and Environment Agency, Wendi Oktariansyah distributed hundreds of seedlings through village heads and Islamic boarding school caretakers in the Limun District area. Some of these trees were planted on the barren former PETI site, which is prone to causing floods. “This is a form of our concern for the community and the environment. This collaborative effort, part of the Bhayangkara Day celebrations, is hoped to provide long-term benefits for the community and the environment,” said Wendi Oktariansyah. Head of the Sarolangun Housing and Environment Agency, Kurniawan, echoed this sentiment, stating that the tree planting is an investment for the future. “Let us work together to create a greener, healthier, and more beautiful Limun District for future generations!” he said. Monti Utih Village Head Hariyanto, also known as Unyil, responded positively to the police’s environmental action in his village, parts of which had become barren due to past illegal mining activities.
