Sarmuji: Collaboration between workers and entrepreneurs is key to shared prosperity
A healthy industrial relationship must be built on the principles of mutual respect, open dialogue, and equal partnership.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Golkar Party Faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, Muhammad Sarmuji, emphasised that workers’ welfare cannot be separated from the stability and progress of the business world.
Sarmuji, who is also the Secretary General of the Golkar Party, in his statement in Jakarta on Friday, stressed the importance of harmonious cooperation between workers and entrepreneurs as the main foundation for national economic development.
“A healthy industrial relationship must be built on the principles of mutual respect, open dialogue, and equal partnership. Workers and entrepreneurs are not two opposing parties, but strategic partners in driving economic growth and shared prosperity,” said Sarmuji.
The statement was delivered in commemoration of International Labour Day (May Day) 2026. He also expressed appreciation to all workers in Indonesia.
Sarmuji also encouraged strengthening social dialogue between labour unions, entrepreneurs, and the government, both at the company level and in formulating national policies. He assessed that effective communication can prevent conflicts and produce balanced solutions.
In addition, he highlighted the importance of improving human resource quality through vocational training, as well as reskilling and upskilling programmes amid changes in the world of work due to digitalisation and technological developments.
“The state must be present to ensure that workers are not left behind by the times. Training and skills enhancement programmes must be expanded so that our workforce can compete at the global level,” he said.
According to Sarmuji, the stability of industrial relations will directly impact the investment climate. Harmonious relations are seen as able to increase Indonesia’s attractiveness to investors and open up more job opportunities.
He also invited all elements of the nation to make Labour Day a momentum for reflection and collaboration.
“May Day is not only about commemorating the workers’ struggle, but also strengthening the spirit of togetherness. With harmonious cooperation between workers, entrepreneurs, and the government, we are optimistic that we can realise a more just, prosperous, and competitive Indonesia,” he concluded.
