Sarlito's statement

Sarlito's statement

From Kompas

I respect Sarlito Wirawan as a psychologist and a professor. However, his statement quoted in Kompas of Oct. 12 startled me.

Did Sarlito really make the statement (without being asked by the reporter, so he consciously revealed something) or was he misquoted by the press? If Sarlito really said that he "accused" Ita, a member of a volunteers' team, of being on narcotics and a sex worker, was he speaking as a professor or as a layman?

As a professional with his expertise, Sarlito was certainly consciously honest and had considered all aspects before making any statements that would target mere popularity.

As an expert in psychology Sarlito certainly knows the psychological effects of his public statement on the victim's family. The truth of his statement is still doubtful. Sarlito said that it was only an "assumption" and he had not spoken to the victim's parents.

Is it proper for Sarlito to speak negatively about things which are actually not clear?

What is Sarlito's intention in making the statement? If he spoke thoughtlessly he'd better admit it and openly apologize. The case is getting international attention!
