JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono inaugurated the revitalisation of the pedestrian bridge (JPO) at MH Thamrin Sarinah halt in Menteng District, Central Jakarta, on Monday (2 March 2026).

Pramono arrived at the location at approximately 16:26 Western Indonesian Time, wearing traditional Indonesian formal attire. He proceeded with his entourage to the halt area and ascended the newly revitalised pedestrian bridge.

The bridge is now equipped with a lift capable of accommodating up to five persons and features direct connection to pavements fitted with paving blocks and guidance blocks for people with disabilities.

According to Pramono, the revitalisation was undertaken to enhance accessibility and pedestrian comfort. He noted that the pedestrian bridge holds historical significance, having been first inaugurated by then-Jakarta Governor Ali Sadikin on 21 April 1968.

“Today we are revitalising this pedestrian bridge to make it disability-friendly and to ensure all people have options, whether they wish to use the lift or continue using the pedestrian crossing that we continue to operate,” Pramono stated.

He further indicated that the surrounding pavement would be widened by approximately 2.6 metres to provide more space for pedestrians and facilitate access to Sarinah, which has heritage building status.

The pavement widening will proceed following the pedestrian reinstatement process by MRT Jakarta, targeted for completion in May 2026. Development costs were covered through Transjakarta corporate funds, with the project having experienced delays due to various national agendas.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is also exploring the possibility of direct integration of the pedestrian bridge into the Sarinah building to enhance area connectivity. Pramono indicated that whilst the province had proposed direct bridge access into Sarinah, the building’s heritage status has made the operator cautious. However, he stated discussions with the Development Assistant would continue to explore whether the building owner would be willing to proceed with extending the bridge through to Sarinah.
