Sari Yuliati Praises B50 Biodiesel Implementation as a Step Towards Energy Independence
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sari Yuliati, has expressed appreciation and support for the launch of the B50 biodiesel programme, which was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto. The launch forms part of a strategy to achieve national energy independence.
Sari said the policy marks an important milestone in strengthening energy resilience whilst encouraging an economic transformation based on domestic resources.
According to her, the implementation of B50 biodiesel is not merely an energy sector policy, but also a step that has an impact on strengthening national industry, improving the welfare of oil palm farmers, reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, and creating added value for the Indonesian economy.
“We extend our highest appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto and the entire government for their commitment and courage in accelerating the implementation of B50 biodiesel. This is a policy that demonstrates a national development direction increasingly oriented towards independence, sustainability and the national interest,” Sari said in a statement on Saturday (11/7/2026).
She further explained that the use of biodiesel-based energy proves that Indonesia is capable of optimising its own natural resources to meet national energy needs.
As one of the world’s largest palm oil producers, Indonesia holds a comparative advantage that must be exploited to the fullest in order to strengthen the nation’s position amid geopolitical dynamics and uncertainty in the global energy market.
Sari emphasised that the B50 biodiesel policy will also have an impact on state foreign exchange savings. With increasing use of palm-based fuel, the need for imported diesel can be significantly curbed, thereby strengthening the trade balance and national economic stability.
“In a global situation full of uncertainty, energy resilience is one of the main foundations of state sovereignty. Therefore, biodiesel development must be viewed as a long-term strategic investment for Indonesia’s future,” she asserted.
Sari also urged that the implementation of B50 biodiesel be carried out in phases and in a measured manner. This must also be supported by the readiness of distribution infrastructure, improved product quality, strengthened research and technological innovation, and synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises, industry players, academics and society.
She stressed the importance of maintaining the sustainability of Indonesia’s palm oil industry through good governance practices, improved farmer productivity, and the application of sustainability principles so that Indonesian biodiesel becomes increasingly competitive in the international market.
Sari emphasised that the DPR RI stands ready to provide support through its legislative, budgetary and oversight functions to ensure that the government’s various strategic programmes in the energy sector run optimally and deliver tangible benefits to the public.
“Energy independence is part of the great aspiration towards an Indonesia that is sovereign, advanced and competitive. The implementation of B50 biodiesel is a concrete step towards realising that vision. We in the DPR RI will continue to support policies that side with the national interest, strengthen energy resilience and improve the welfare of the Indonesian people,” Sari concluded.
