SAR Team Recovers Body of Drowning Victim in West Flood Canal

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Personnel from the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office (SAR) have recovered the body of a victim who was swept away and drowned in the Banjir Kanal Barat (BKB) canal, located on Jalan Tanggul Banjir Kanal Barat, Grogol Urban Village, Grogol Petamburan District, West Jakarta. The body was found deceased. Desiana Kartika Bahari, Head of the Jakarta SAR Office and SAR Mission Coordinator, stated that the victim was discovered floating face down in the waters near the Season City area, approximately 1.5 kilometres from the incident site. “The victim was previously reported to have been swept away and drowned in the Banjir Kanal Barat canal. The body was subsequently evacuated and taken to the funeral home to be handed over to the family,” Desiana said in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday. She explained that the joint SAR team received information about the discovery of a body under the Season City Bridge at 07:20 WIB. The team immediately moved to the location and by 08:00 WIB had identified the body as M. Tomul Adi Kurniawan, aged 19, who was the subject of the search. Prior to the discovery, the search effort was conducted by dividing the operational area into two Search and Rescue Units (SRU). One unit conducted a sweep along the BKB canal using a rubber boat, covering a distance of 3 kilometres from the incident site, while the other carried out a visual search on land along the canal banks up to 5 kilometres from the site. The SAR operation involved elements from the Jakarta SAR Office, Tanjung Duren Fire Department, West Jakarta BPBD, Duri Pulo Village Babinsa, BTB Bazis/Baznas, ERT Rumah Zakat, IMANICARE, Mapala Mustopo, RMI, RAC, SAR MTA, and the local community. “With the recovery of the victim, the SAR operation is declared complete and all involved SAR elements are returned to their respective units,” she said.
