SAR Team Evacuates Mysterious Woman from the Sea off Parangtritis
A joint SAR team at Parangtritis Beach, Bantul, has evacuated a woman wearing a hijab who walked into the sea. Authorities are now attempting to trace the family of the unidentified woman.
M. Arif Nugraha, Coordinator of Jogo Segoro for the Parangtritis-Depok region, explained that the woman was initially spotted on the shore of Parangtritis Beach earlier in the day. However, she was observed continuing to walk towards the middle of the sea.
“Officers who noticed the woman walking too far out to sea approached her and persuaded her to return to land,” Arif said when contacted by reporters on Thursday (9/7/2026).
The woman eventually agreed to return to the shore. Officers subsequently took her to the Parangtritis SAR post.
“The woman then calmed down and was able to communicate. However, according to her statement, her bag was swept away by the waves,” he said.
As a result, officers are still trying to ascertain the woman’s identity. They are also continuing to communicate with her in the hope that she will provide a contact number.
Arif suspects that the woman’s actions were triggered by psychological issues, noting that she initially had difficulty communicating with officers and appeared disoriented.
“Based on initial indications and her psychological condition during the evacuation, the individual is suspected to have been suffering from severe depression,” he stated.
