SAR Team Evacuates Driver Trapped in Cabin After Truck Collision in Buleleng

A joint search and rescue (SAR) team successfully evacuated a driver who was trapped inside his truck cabin following an accident involving two lorries on the Singaraja-Gilimanuk highway in Dusun Gondol, Penyabangan Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency, Bali, on Thursday (6/8).

The Denpasar Search and Rescue Office received information about the incident at 13.10 WITA from Daud, a local Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) officer. According to the report, the accident occurred around 11.30 WITA, leaving one driver trapped inside his vehicle and requiring a specialised extraction. The victim was identified as Kadek Budi Artawan (42), a resident of Banjar Dinas Marga Garuda, Pejarakan Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency.

Following the report, on-duty personnel from the Buleleng SAR Post immediately coordinated with the Gerokgak Police and the Buleleng PMI. Kadek Donny Indrawan, Coordinator of the Buleleng SAR Post, stated that a team of six rescue personnel departed for the location at 13.25 WITA.

The rescue team arrived at the scene at 13.45 WITA and promptly conducted an assessment to determine the safest extraction method. Given that the victim was pinned inside the vehicle cabin, the joint SAR team employed Vehicle Accident Rescue (VAR) techniques using extrication equipment while prioritising the victim’s safety.

The victim was successfully removed from the vehicle alive, suffering from a leg injury sustained during the entrapment. He was subsequently evacuated to the Gerokgak Community Health Centre using a PMI Buleleng ambulance for further medical treatment. The operation involved a combined SAR team consisting of six personnel from the Buleleng SAR Post, four personnel from the Gerokgak Police, two personnel from the Buleleng PMI, as well as support from the victim’s family and local residents.
