SAR Team Discovers Another Victim of Landfill Collapse at Bantargebang Waste Processing Facility
Jakarta — The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of DKI Jakarta has discovered another body of a victim buried in a landslide at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST), located in Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City, West Java.
“One body was found this afternoon, bringing the total number of fatalities to five,” said Romli Prasetyo, spokesperson for Basarnas DKI Jakarta, in Jakarta on Monday.
To date, rescue personnel are still searching for four additional people believed to remain buried. “So far, four people have been rescued,” he added.
Basarnas DKI Jakarta has recorded 13 people as victims of the garbage mountain collapse. The four survivors are Budiman, Joha, Safifudin, and Slamet.
“We found one more body. We are still searching for four victims who have not yet been found,” said Romli.
A total of 366 combined personnel have been deployed to search for victims, including teams from the Jakarta SAR Office, Bekasi SAR Alert Unit, Metro Bekasi Police, Bantar Gebang Police Station, Koramil, Bekasi Fire Department, TNI Armed Battalion 7/Biring Galih, Metro Jaya Police Regional Criminal Investigation Division, Mobile Brigade, and other units.
Combined SAR personnel are opening access routes using heavy machinery such as excavators and deploying search and rescue units or K-9 units to search for signs of victims.
“We have also deployed rescue equipment for evacuation operations,” he said.
