SAR exercise opens today
JAKARTA (JP): The final training drills of a combined sea,
land and air Search and Rescue (SAR) team, to be called Lumba-
Lumba (Dolphin), will be held today at Edam Island in the Seribu
Island group off Jakarta Bay, Jakarta Governor Surjadi Soedirdja
said.
Surjadi, who made the disclosure in a speech during the
launching of the training drills on Tuesday, said the drills
would be aimed at anticipating sea accidents that might occur
during the upcoming Arung Samudera 1995 sailing race
commemorating the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence.
Four helicopters, one aircraft, seven ships, 10 ambulance
units and 270 SAR members will take part in the rehearsals today,
Surjadi said as reported by Antara. (01)
