Sanyo to raise RI activities

TOKYO (AFP): Japan's Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. plans to shift
the production of wide-screen television sets to its offshore
units in Asia by the end of this year in an effort to cut costs,
a company official said yesterday.

The company will relocate annual production of 50,000 20-inch
units from its Osaka plant, western Japan, but has yet to decide
to which countries the production will be shifted, the official
said.

He said parts for these television sets would be produced by
its Indonesian unit, TT Sanyo Jaya Components Indonesia.

Sanyo Electric has already shifted its entire production of
regular-screen television sets offshore. Its current offshore
production accounts 75 percent of the total.
