Sanyo makes TV No. 5 million

JAKARTA: PT Sanyo Electronics Indonesia (SEI) will boost its
television production to 1.1 million units from 900,000 this year
due to increasing global demand.

"This year, we produce the fifth million TV and plans to
increase our annual output," SEI president director Makoto Sugai
said in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday.

The increase is part of the effort to maximize the company's
annual capacity of 1.3 million units.

From its 900,000 production, some 80 percent is exported to 50
countries in ASEAN, Middle East, Africa, Australia, New Zealand,
Russia and Japan while the remaining 20 percent is for domestic
market.

At present, SEI produced conventional TV, flat screens and LCD
(liquid crystal display).

"We are committed to develop TV production in Indonesia,
focusing on LCD to meet the high end market demand. Such
development will make Indonesia the basis for TV production,"
Sugai said.

SEI, he added, could produce up to 30,000 LCD per year and the
capacity is still able to meet market demand to next year. --
