Sany Develops Electrification Technology for the Mining Industry
Sany Group Indonesia has introduced several electrified heavy machines for mining operations, amidst the industry’s need to reduce emissions and operational costs. The company stated that more than 500 units of various types of heavy equipment were ordered during the Mining Indonesia and Construction Indonesia 2026 event.
Saanjay Shamdasani, Deputy General Manager and Director of Government Relations at Sany Group Indonesia, stated that electrification is one of the approaches being developed to support low-emission mining operations. According to Saanjay, the mining electrification ecosystem includes not only heavy machinery but also charging infrastructure, low-carbon energy, digital fleet management, and human resources with expertise in the field of electrification.
Sany introduced several pieces of equipment, including 100-ton class excavators, 100-ton class mining trucks, electric wheel loaders, pure electric heavy-duty trucks, and electric dump trucks. This equipment is used to demonstrate the application of electrification technology in excavation, loading, and the transport of mining materials.
In addition to electric equipment, Sany introduced Deutz generators as one of the power supply options. Saanjay noted that the technologies introduced have the potential to reduce operational costs by up to 60 per cent and maintenance costs by up to 50 per cent, while simultaneously reducing emissions.
Interest in electrification-based mining equipment was also evident from transactions during the exhibition. One of the largest orders consisted of 150 mining trucks, with total orders reaching more than 500 units of various types of heavy equipment.
Saanjay stated that the transition towards more efficient and low-emission operations will require technological readiness, supporting infrastructure, services, and the ability to adapt equipment to the specific conditions of each mining site.
Sany has expressed its intention to continue the development of technology and equipment to support the transformation of the mining and construction sectors in Indonesia.
