Sanur-based fisherman missing after going to sea off Nusa Penida
A fisherman named I Wayan Suta from Sanur, Denpasar, has been reported missing while at sea in the waters off Nusa Penida, Klungkung. The victim is believed to have fallen from his jukung while fishing. To date, the victim has not been found.
The victim is known to have departed to sea on Friday (6 March 2026) at around 05:00 WITA. However, in the afternoon around 16:20 WITA, the vessel belonging to Sutaa was found unmanned by the Rayfish Fins (Arjuna 2) ship which happened to be passing through the waters off Nusa Penida.
The jukung was then towed back to the waters off Sanur, Denpasar.
Based on a release received, the Captain of KN SAR Arjuna, Arif Yulianto, who led the SAR operation, said the search process had been carried out since Friday afternoon by sweeping the area around the location where the victim’s jukung was found. However, by nightfall, the victim had not been found.
Then on Saturday (7 March 2026) the search continued with the deployment of a joint SAR team that departed from Benoa Port towards the waters of Nusa Penida.
The SAR team also coordinated with local fishermen in the area to help monitor the possible whereabouts of the victim.
“Earlier, the SAR team had coordinated with the local fishermen to report any signs of the victim’s location to Basarnas,” Arif said, Saturday (7 March 2026).
The second day’s search was focused around the area where the victim’s jukung was found. Sweepings had been conducted since morning with the involvement of joint SAR elements.
The weather around the incident site was reported as fairly friendly with wide visibility, so it is hoped this will assist the search.
“The weather today is clear and the visibility is wide; we hope to find the target soon,” Arif said.
