Santri Burn Victims in Central Lombok Face Medical Cost Hurdles

The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has reported that two students who were victims of a burning incident at an Islamic boarding school in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, are facing financial obstacles to their medical treatment. “The family is still focused on the physical recovery of the victims, but they are constrained by costs. Information received indicates there are obstacles in using BPJS funds,” said KPAI Commissioner Diyah Puspitarini in Jakarta on Wednesday. KPAI is urging the local Health Office and BPJS to provide free medical care for the child victims of physical violence. “They must receive medical assistance and rehabilitation as soon as possible, especially in this case where the children were burned and are suffering from permanent disabilities,” she added. The incident occurred in December 2025 at the Rosyidatushaulatiyyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School, where three students were allegedly set on fire by a senior student. One victim died from the incident, while the other two sustained severe burns. The legal process is currently being handled by the Central Lombok Police and the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, and no suspects have yet been named.
