Santri Burn Victims Blocked from Denny Sumargo Podcast by Police
Ahmad Deven Ramdan (14) and the family of Sahid Al Hudri (14) cancelled their trip to Jakarta to fulfil an invitation to appear on Denny Sumargo’s podcast. The two santri, victims of a burning incident at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok, were intercepted by police at Zainuddin Abdul Majid International Airport in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Their departure was halted because both victims are still undergoing treatment in hospital. Furthermore, the legal process regarding the alleged arson case is still ongoing with the police.
Joko Jumadi, Chair of the Mataram Child Protection Agency and legal counsel for the two victims, confirmed the interception. However, Joko stressed that neither he nor his team were at the hospital or the airport when the incident occurred. Joko admitted he had previously been contacted by someone from Jakarta inviting him to attend the podcast, but he refused because both victims were still receiving hospital treatment. He also stated that the medical expenses for both victims are being covered by the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Kalingga Rendra Raharja. Consequently, he requested that any party wishing to take the victims must first obtain permission from the Regional Police Chief.
Joko later received information that a party had come to the hospital and invited both victims and their families to travel to Jakarta. According to him, this plan was never communicated to him as their legal representative. Joko stated that the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police stopped the victims’ departure because they are still undergoing intensive care at Bhayangkara Hospital, facilitated by the Regional Police Chief. Additionally, the legal process for the case is still underway, with a case review scheduled for the following day. Joko noted that the victims’ needs, including medical costs, education, and mental recovery support, are now almost entirely met.
The alleged arson case against three students at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok came to light after a video of the victims circulated and went viral on social media. The incident, which occurred in December 2025, resulted in the death of one student. The Central Lombok Police Criminal Investigation Unit has elevated the case to the investigation stage. Police have also confirmed that the naming of suspects will be carried out after the case review.
