PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI will operate the Sangkuriang train on the Bandung-Ketapang, Banyuwangi route starting 1 May 2026. In addition to Yogyakarta Station, Solo Balapan Station will be one of the stops for this train in the KAI Daerah Operasi 6 Yogyakarta region.

Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, stated that the presence of this service opens up more practical travel access for the people of Solo.

“Passengers from Solo now have a new option to travel to Bandung or Banyuwangi without needing to change trains. This will facilitate mobility while saving travel time,” said Feni on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

The Sangkuriang train is scheduled to provide direct journeys without transit from Bandung to Banyuwangi and vice versa. For the initial departure, the Bandung-Ketapang journey will be served by KA 7044A starting 1 May 2026, while the return direction from Ketapang-Bandung will use KA 7043A, which will begin operating the day after, on 2 May 2026.

In addition to Solo and Yogyakarta, the train will also stop in several other cities, such as Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Madiun, Surabaya, and Jember, before arriving in Banyuwangi.

The Sangkuriang train offers three classes of service: Suite Class Compartment, Executive, and Economy. This variety of classes provides flexibility for passengers to choose services according to their needs and purchasing power.

To attract public interest, KAI is also offering a 50 percent train ticket discount promotion specifically for the inaugural journey on the Bandung-Ketapang route on 1 May 2026. Tickets can be obtained through the Access by KAI application and other official channels.

Feni stated that strengthening connectivity through the railway line is part of KAI’s strategy to improve efficient and affordable public transportation services.

“With direct connections from Solo to Banyuwangi and Bandung, we hope the Sangkuriang train becomes the primary choice for the public for long-distance travel,” she said.

From a business perspective, the addition of this route is expected to boost regional economic movement, especially in Solo and its surroundings. Direct access to premier tourist destinations in East Java, such as Banyuwangi, is considered to have the potential to increase domestic tourist flows, while strengthening the tourism sector and local SMEs.
